De Bethune DB28 & DB28T Tourbillon 'Kind Of Blue' Watch
De Bethune has always focused on a vaguely celestial-inspired aesthetic, so it's no surprise that their latest DB28 watch pays homage to the most cosmic blue. De Bethune DB28 Kind of Blue and DB28T Kind of Blue are the latest additions to the collection, citing the colour's association with infinity and harmony as well as "abundance" (a concept within and outside itself). Regardless, it's a beautiful and rich color that gets the De Bethune look by heating and oxidizing.
The De Bethune DB28 Kind of Blue watch is crafted from the familiar grade 5 titanium case, mounted on the usual floating lugs like the DB28 GS. A moon phase made of steel and palladium can be seen at 6 o'clock and needs to be adjusted every 122 years. Between 2 and 3 o'clock on the back of the case, you'll see the power reserve. Slightly smaller than previous DB28 watches, the case is 43mm wide and 9.3mm thick. It also has 30m water resistance, so please don't use this thing for any water sports.

The caliber DB2115 of the DB28 is equipped with De Bethune's parachute damping system, the core of which is located in a separate bridge supported by springs. Other patented features of De Bethune include a silicon toroidal balance surrounded by a white gold ring, and a balance spring with a flat end curve. It runs at 28,800 vph and gets a 6-day power reserve. The plywood and bridge cover are decorated with "Bethune" and look great.
The De Bethune DB28T Kind of Blue watch has the same case as the DB28, but features what De Bethune calls the world's lightest 0.2-gram tourbillon. It beats at 1/10 of a second and completes a full rotation in 30 seconds. Like the BD28, it has a silicon balance wheel, but this one is surrounded by a platinum ring. The visible DB2019 movement runs at 36,000 vph and achieves a 5-day power reserve, ensured by self-regulating twin barrels.
As with most De Bethune watches, these "blue" pieces need to be seen to be fully understood or appreciated. Both come with blue alligator leather straps, which are both obvious and fitting.
